Garth Brooks has edged ahead of Elvis Presley as Best Selling Solo Artist according to the people keeping tabs at “Recording Industry Association of America”.
Brooks has sold 123 million albums to Elvis’ 118.5 million. In third spot is Billy Joel with 79.5 million. This comes on the eve of Garth Brooks latest album release, “The Ultimate Hits” in stores starting today. In conjunction with the new record, Brooks is scheduled to do 9 one-night performances that are already sold out.
Brooks, though retired, penned a deal in 2005 with Wal-Mart to sell all of his music exclusively. That included his “Garth Brooks - The Limited Series”. It has turned out to be lucrative for Brooks.
Apparently the Best Selling title already belonged to Brooks’ back in the 90’s but reverted back to Elvis in 1999. How, you might ask, can a dead Elvis sell records. Suffice it to say, it can be done and the Elvis estate continues to generate revenues. Don’t be surprised if dead Elvis is in the wings right now getting ready to take that title back.
